Who is Jamie?

Jamie Pattison is a Paramedic with a deep professional and personal commitment to improving hypothermia prevention, recognition, and care in all environments.

From the mountains of Northumberland to the Arctic tundra, Jamie has built his career around delivering advanced pre-hospital medicine in cold, hostile, and resource-limited settings. He first joined Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team and as their medical officer, drove developments to cold care and prevention, later becoming Team Leader, where he continues to drive standards in clinical governance and operational safety across challenging terrain. His medical leadership was recognised during the COVID-19 pandemic for guiding the team through one of the most demanding periods in modern Mountain Rescue history.

As part of his work with UK International Search and Rescue (UKISAR), he was deployed to Morocco to help 6.8 magnitude earthquake victims in 2023 and awarded the King’s Humanitarian Medal in recognition of his role.

Jamie’s interest with cold-environment medicine has taken him from polar expeditions to UKSAR helicopter operations, developing specialist experience in prolonged field care, hypothermia staging, and thermal protection systems for both patients and rescuers.

Having trained with the North East Ambulance Service and served with the Scottish Ambulance Service Special Operations Response Team, Jamie now works as a Winch Paramedic with HM Coastguard / Bristow Helicopters, responding to emergencies at sea, on mountains, in all conditions. His operational insight informs his ongoing work in medical governance and development, ensuring best practice is both clinically robust and practically achievable.

A proud Geordie and self-confessed chionophile, Jamie combines clinical precision with a genuine love of the cold, believing that understanding and respecting extreme environments is key to saving lives within them.
